India Shining Campaign
With elections round the corner, every political party is doing its best to woo voters. The media, be it print or electronic is flooded with ads of political parties showcasing their achievements. The case in question is the India shining campaign by the BJP, a leading political party in India. Though I too like many Indian citizens want that BJP should come to power but this does not stop me from pinpointing their follies.
You will agree with the fact that India is indeed progressing and shining too, but to spend public money on advertising by a political party is in no way ethical. As responsible citizens we pay taxes not to be squandered away on such things. Moreover I was very surprised one fine morning when I received a call on my cellphone from the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee. To be honest, it felt great at first. However, slowly but surely the reality seeped in. Firstly, the voice of the prime minister was recorded message. Secondly, it occurred to me that they might have generated a system, which picks up numbers on random basis and plays the recorded message. Thus, my initial excitement was brought down by my own thoughts. I could not decide whether the phone call enhanced my faith in BJP or somewhat reduced it.
The prime minister of any country should maintain his or her reputation and yet be easily accessible to the comman man. But ironically the phone call was only a recorded message. There might have been hundreds of people who might have received the call and had also wanted to convey their thoughts or pleas to the prime minister. So though the technology has progressed and is being employed by the political parties for campaigning, the interactivity that comes with the technology is a far-fetched dream.
