POTA or The Prevention Of Terrorism Act (POTA) was passed by previous government lead by BJP in India in 2002. Since then, it has been dogged by controversy due to its use in cases in which it was not required.

The Congress party, had promised to repeal the law in its election agenda. and now two bills will be passed in the Parliament for the same.

My gutfeel is that this is a step in the right direction. Any law which becomes a nuisance and causes harm to the innocent should be given a second thought. I think it will not lead to any leniency in the war against terrorism as there are other laws for that. What is your opinion on the issue?

I think BJP did a blunder by passing this POTA. It is nice to hear that it is being repealed by the Congress party. There had been many cases where this was being highly misused.

And i don't feel tht it will weaken the war against terrorism.

Hi,
Its a very precarious question to answer.
I feel definitely some law is required to curb terrorism, n prevent it instead of tackling with it when the crime has been committed.
But the loopholes n political misuse of the law puts such laws in the dock.
I don't understand that even after having a bad experience n furore over previous antiquated laws like TADA, the govt. could not finalise the nuances of a law which is not vulnerable to political arm-twisting, n also serves the purpose.

Strange!!
