I came across this piece of info and would like to share and get your opinion on it...
A study of more than 400 pensioners reveals that cognitive ability is unrelated to happiness in old age. One might worry about financial security, good health but being clever does not in any way help you in old age...This is really strange because being clever is so much valued in our society.
It is suggested intelligent people may also be more concerned about achievement and more aware of alternative lifestyles, which may lead to dissatisfaction.
If a person has reached 80 years of age and looks back at how satisfied s/he has been with life, the IQ will not play any role in this. In fact, financial security, and friendship do play a very important part in being happy in the old age. It was also found that women are generally happier than men because of strong social networks. |
