Just wondering how does SEO (search engine optimization) helps website. If I look from gutfeel perspective. My question would be, is this forum optimized for search engines.

Search engine optimization is the act of making ones website content more search engine friendly to make it rank higher.
The content is changed by using the most searched keywords being used in the industry, so that the site does list up very often in the searches.

There are many search engine optimizers doing round in the market, but most of them are paid.
n yes, this site can be optimized for search engines. but tht requires some effort and change in the webscripts.
optimizing tips can be easily sought from the net.
