Yes, according to a research conducted by Amirican cancer society, that hot cuppa coffee can do much more than just providing you an energy boost. It may also help to prevent the deadly liver cancer.

The research was conducted on around 90000 Japanese people to find affect on cancer.

They found the likely occurrence of liver cancer in people who never or almost never drank coffee was 547.2 cases per 100,000 people over 10 years and chances of cancer wer much lower in people who drank one to two cups of coffee in a day.

Seems to be a nice finding, and i am going to start drinking coffee regularly now. Cool

Ankur:

Coffee has been known to boost the senses and this is a widely known fact.

When i do not feel like getting up from my slumber, a hot coffee does it for me; drags me out of my slumber, gets me going Go went gone...

This is a good news for all of those who drink and subsequently are at risk of liver cancer. Drinking regularly will ward off the after effects. One day these scientists will also come out with such research rather on cancer, till that time,

enjoy coffee Cheers

In fact on cancer, there were number of research that were done to find effect of coffee on cancer.

There was one conducted to find possible risk of cancer from decaffeinated one. Trichloroethylene, a solvent once used to decaffeinate, was tested by the National Cancer Institute in 1976 and shown to cause liver tumors(cancer) in mice. The National Cancer Institute later conducted a study on civilian workers exposed to trichloroethylene while engaged in aircraft maintenance at a United States Air Force Base. After reviewing this cancer study, the International Agency for Research on Cancer concluded that evidence for the risk of cancer from trichloroethylene in humans was limited. After the decade of 80s, coffee companies have switched to other solvents such as methylene chloride (dichloromethane), ethyl acetate, or other types of processing to decaffeinate coffee. Because methylene chloride is now strongly suspected to cause cancer in humans, most coffee producers no longer use it. But this is something a sure area to watch out.

There was a German study that shows that coffee may help prevent colon cancer. They identified a potent antioxidant compound in the popular brew that appears in animal studies to boost the activity of phase II enzymes, which are thought to protect against colon cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. It also indicated that anti cancer compound, called methylpyridinium, is found almost exclusively in coffee and coffee products but is not found in significant amounts in other foods and beverages. More of this cancer research could be found on:
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/10/031015031251.htm

However all these on cancer are inconclusive, until studies on human are done to ascertain the affecct of coffee on cancer, also no one knows exactly how much coffee is needed to protect against cancer.

Whatever, it may be I would say long live Coffee Very Happy

Thanks Matt for sharing related info Smile

I do agree that it would be a while when the absolute effects of coffee in preventing cancer are known. Also how much coffee should one drink to keep cancer at bay? These are some of the intruiging questions which will puzzle the common people.

But one thing comes out of this discussion is that moderate amount of coffee is in fact good for health. Razz
