I happpened to see the movie and voila i did like it inspite of the fact that Shah Rukh is present in almost every frame of the movie...a treat for Shah Rukh fans and for those who don't like him dare not think of Swades.

The subject is old, an NRI trying to find his roots in his own motherland, but the director Ashutosh Gowverikar has treated it very well. He is able to sustain interest till the end. The fresh face of Gayatri is a welcome relief.

The movie has not fared well as it is not the typical bollywood type song dance fight and romance movie. The treatment of the subject is different and the film has a nice message for the audience. Worth a watch...

Have you guys watched it? If yes, what is your gutfeel on the movie?

I can only say that i didn't like the movie at all. I expected a lot more and was dissappointed in terms of the story. In fact, i even dozed off in the middle of the movie to be woken up by a song sequence. I would say that it was a waste of money.

Ashutosh's maiden venture Lagaan was much better than this one. Rolling Eyes

There are several mistakes with the movies....the director took a good theme and destroyed it...he could have made this into an another lagaan....had he given a little more thought into making the movie...

Here is my take on it (with no priority):
1. No good songs
2. The heroine is far too pretty and well dressed to be living in a drabby village
3. The part about electricity generation could have used less drama...its un-necessary and illogical.
4. The hero should have stayed quiet in the little village drama scene...no need to interject into an otherwise reasonable "rama & ravana" opera.
5. If the hero's intention upon return is to work for "Vikram Sarabhai Space center"...he may as well stay in US. No need for him to return and take away another poor man's job in india.
6. The hero's ethics about completing his project in US, before returning is one commendable factor though.
Sad

Well, after a long time i found time 2 go 2 a movie hall n spend three hours on a movie.
But, i don't regret it.
Swades is a good film and stands out due to individual brilliance.
The film could have been more realistic, but what do u expect a director to deliver in 3 hrs.
n as the industry doesn't hv the acceptance for sequels, he tried to show lot many things stacked together which made it look unrealistic sometimes..

But otherwise, the performances are superb.Shahrukh seems to carry the film totally on his shoulders.
I felt even if the rest of the characters had no dialogues, it wud not hv made any diff.
Being a Gayatri fan, i felt she was not only good but mesmerising.
Though she did falter in some emotional scenes, but tht kind of leverage can b given for a newcomer.
Music, i found was good, if not extraordinary.

Though the movie sound like a documentary at times, but such ideals cannot b presented without making them sound didactic.

Ashutosh Gowarikar has carried on from Lagaan and has raised his stakes as out-of-the-box films.

Overall, a decent attempt at making sthg. different.
