Folks,
As Saddam is in custody and we are getting some what clear picture on Iraq. Also in light of recent abuse of Iraqi prisoners and the killings that happened.
My question is what sort of trial should Saddam Hussain get?
What is your gutfeel? |

A fair one?
Very short gutfeel I know. But when the time comes that we stoop to the levels of some of the people on both sides of the fence will the be the time that the worls would have gone truly mad! |

The qustion being "What sort of trial shouod Saddam Hussain get?"
Well, I guess it's not really up for that much discussion. If he is to have a trial and we are supposed to be a 'civilised' world then he will have the same trial as any other criminal. A fair one.
Although many I guess would not agree with the idea of the justice system in some countries being fair at all.
The question above says to me like we should have a vote on whether to...
tar and feather him, hang draw and quarter him, etc... and any other barbaric punishment that we can muster. Well, that's not going to happen no matter how many people think that it should or shouldn't. He will get a fair trial according to the law of the land. Well, at least I hope so. |

Well, the trial for Saddam, i feel, should be just and according to the international laws.
The laws governing the global prisoners can be applied as specified in UN.
As it is an important issue, US can't get away with any sort of punishment to Saddam.
But i hv a gutfeel that the trial will be more media-centric than law-abiding.
It will be a fodder for future elections, and so this issue will be milked till it gets burned out.

Hi all!
In the light of above discussions, i have also come to the conclusion that most of you are pointing to.
Saddam Hussain deserves a fair trial as pointed out by Jan; and as Anshul said it should be according to international laws.

My 2 cents....
How will you define fair trial at first place...
My take he should be jailed for ever... no trial or so.. becoz that will call for irrelevant discussion..
Leave him alone and let god have its say. |

Saddam will be under legal custody of Iraq now. This move was awaited since they found him and will face charges before the Iraqi court this week. Although the prime minister has promised an open proceeding, the type of justice he gets that time will show.
It is heartening to know that due to the events that happened during the regime, more than one million Iraqi’s are missing and the fellow Iraqi’s want justice.
Now that Iraq has got sovereignty, the people will want trail to be as soon as possible. And in this case I don’t agree with what one of our member Jan pointed out.
