Anju Bobby George, from whom India had great hopes crashed out of the finals in spite of a leap of 6.83m, thus bettering her own national mark by a whopping 9 cm.
I saw the event yesterday on Television. The first jump out of the six was her best and everyone was hoping that she might better it in subsequent jumps...but unfortunately the score kept falling after that. We were holding our breaths for the final jump, but were very dissappointed when it was regarded as a foul jump.
All i can say is that it was her hard luck as the Russian sisters outperformed her. Anju eventually came at the sixth position.
Now there is a ray of hope for India, from the women's 4x400m relay squad of Rajwinder Kaur, K M Beenamol, Chitra K Soman and Manjit Kaur. Here's wishing them all the best and hope they get India a medal. |

| When PWC predicted 10 medals for India based on their survey, it seemed to me that at least we could make it to 3 or 4 medals. But sadly, we have to be content with only one silver medal. This dismal performance of the Indians has raised another question in my mind that whether India should opt out of the next Beijing olympics to consolidate its position. What are your reactions to this? |
