Way back in 1991, Bernes-Lee, a researcher at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, U. S. created the system of Internet addresses that began with “http://” and was the foundation of World Wide Web. At that time, he would not have thought that he had started a revolution. Today, we can say that Internet is a discovery, which has truly brought a sea change in the field of communication. It would not be improper to compare the Internet with the car or an aeroplane, the vehicles that opened the gates of modern transportation.
Let’s start with the positive aspects of Internet. The benefits of Internet are manifold. It is a vast resource of information. You can search for anything on the World Wide Web with the help of the search engines.
Internet is a medium through which you can exchange messages in the form of emails almost instantly and can also have real-time chat with your friend or business associate at the other corner of the world.
The big and small business houses can increase their profits by employing Internet. They can showcase their products and services on the web pages and have access to the clients all across the world.
Apart from business purposes the Internet has made eLearning possible. If you are a student or even if you are pursuing a job, just imagine the convenience that comes with eLearning. You can study at your own pace at your home. You can also interact with your professors and discuss your problems in the discussion forums or one-to-one chat. What more, you can also attend webinars or web seminars and be a part of intellectual discussions with the help of video conferencing on the Internet.
Internet is fast becoming a global community because of the fact that anyone can access it from anywhere and share information almost instantly at a low price. People who shy away form computers will soon have to catch up or will be left behind as the future lies in the Internet. In times to come most of the daily transactions will be through the Internet.
Apart from the benefits, there are some negative aspects also associated with the Internet. Pornography and spamming are the drawbacks that come with the Internet. However, the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks. Internet as of now is constantly improving and its scope is ever increasing and I am not exaggerating when I say that it will soon become the lifeline of our daily communication.

Internet is sure my lifeline. I just can't imagine my life without it. Whether it is keeping in touch with friends or searching for any info on net or writing my blog Internet is my resource. I agree that in times to come net will engulf our daily life. Most significant is that due to Internet world has sure become a smaller place. People from cross cultures can interact and share their experiences. It also had a tremendous effect on boosting business as marketing of products has become easier. You can shop online, send greetings at the click of a button and so on.
Internet is here to stay and become a global community...
Any comments?

For sure Internet is becoming a sort of Global community.
It has reduced the barriers between nations and cultures.
My question is will internet be able to reduce barrier between religons, cult, violence etc.
So Folks, what do u say? |

| I think that the barriers between religions, cultures and the way nations behave are borne from ignorance and lack of accessibility to the facts. Ergo, in my view, portions of the internet can only serve as a tool to educate us to be more aware and more accepting of others - whether that be individually or globally. |

Phew, talking about the internet, i distinctly remember those days when owning a PC was a big thing. I had made an email account (hotmail) at my friends house, and after a couple of months when i bought my own PC, i was sad that i'd have to make a new email address as the one i wanted, i'd already made it at my friends place, and now thinking about it makes me laugh so much.
I've come across people who yet think the same way, and i cant stop smiling when i come across them.
Internet for sure has come a long way, and i dont see any end to it. It can & will surely reach places like Africa, Afghanisation very soon, but where or not it can help curb down the tension between countries is hard to say.
I personally dont feel internet can contribute in any way to get peace between India & Pakistan for eg. LIke someone said above, the Internet can only educate, the rest is upto us.
All in All, i dont think i can imagine my life without the internet. Its such a valuable thing |
