"Anandji hai?" "Oh sameer bhai!! Woh naha rahe hai..."

Doesnt matter how much u surf channels, this is what you hear these days. Samsung, the electronic gaint has decided that this cricket wave is theirs...and how. Come to think of it...Samsung is orignally from Korea, a land where only an english teacher knows what Cricket is - "An insect."
Well thats Globalisation, I guess.

Sometimes I wonder if this overdose will really promote their product or will it have the adverse irritating effect. If they have decided that they r gonna bombard our sensibilities then they cud have done it with a set of "good" ads. Not with just one(particularly this one).

Actually what prompted me to write this was the overdose of cricket and cricketers we are witnessing these days. And these are the days when the media, particularly the electronic media has intruded into your life like never before. Really, its omnipresent. And what does it choose to show - Cricket or rather anything and everything related to it. If something is not related to it then relate it!!

No doubt the boys did a great job. But Iam not surprised coz they are just too talented and confident. But then whats the need for the Prime Minister, President and now (not to be left behind) leader of opposition to 'congratulate' them? OK..I dont mind that..we all congratulate them and they deserve it..No Issues. But why is the media making a news out of nothing. I mean, its election time, so its not that the (otherwise politics obsessed) media is starved of news. Besides there's the 'war against terrorism' in Iraq. So there's enough news out there to fill the newspaper, like Jerry Seinfeld said. But the media has decided that people just want to watch/hear/read cricket and nothing but cricket. So you open the paper in the morning and read how happy Buddhadeb Bhattacharya is because the Indian cricket team has won the historic test series.

We love our cricket and our cricketers. But please...Dont question our intellect by showing on TV ("live") the journey of each and every cricketer from airport to his home. Because if your camera goes there then people, publicity hungry politicians follow. And more cameras follow and more people follow and you dish out all this stuff on TV, press and internet. We have no choice but to just lap all this up because you guys have decided that this is what we wanna watch.

I wonder if this series has lost a bit of its historicalness as a result of this over hype by the media. But really I think this whole thing is just a pattern which is present everywhere. Just check out the soaps running in adjacent "family channels". The name of the serial? "K--- K--- K---". Check out timesofindia.com, Its high time its renamed sextimesofindia.com
And didnt we just love Mandira Bedi hosting Cricket World Cup?

A message to the media - "OK..we are dumb. But No No..Not this much"
What do you say guys?

Cricket as a game has secured its place in millions of hearts. People not only in India but all over the world watch the game with enthusiasm and the fan following of the cricketers might be even more than the bollywood stars in India.

The question of media overdose is slightly different. As rightly mentioned by happygolucky, the media is making news out of everything. So whether it is cricket, or politicians or any insignificant event, it gets attention by the media. Having said that, i would also add that media is also a source of significant information.

But my gutfeel is that the people are not at all dumb, they would prefer to discuss things rather than being subjected to one-sided information overload. People only want facts to be reported as they are and the irritation that stems from overdose of anything is quite understandable. I don't agree totally with the view that all of us have decided to watch whatever media is offering. Each one of us has a choice of where to spend our attention and that may vary with individual inerests. One may just wan't to surf channels for the heck of it or stick to the useful bit of information provided by media.

Any comments, Cool

Agree with Happygolucky, it has almost become a one way communication or rather one way intrusion into people's home.

This is prevelant all across world, the media in a way playing with emotions of people. The current campaigns by some companies are indication towards this.

Need more opinion of people about this media madness.

I also agree with happygolucky, i just feel irritated sometimes with so much of one information at the same time. These days the media is full of all info about Sehwag's marriage...we bless him though....but isn't too much of anything is bad...

What u say,
Aditi
